Land disputes leave 2 dead in Sherpur, Laxmipur
Two people were killed over land disputes in Sherpur Sadar upazila and Raipur upazila of Laxmipur on Wednesday and the day before.
Our Sherpur correspondent reported that, a man was beaten to death by his rivals over a land dispute in Sadar upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased, Nazrul Islam, 55, son of late Kafil Uddin, was a resident of Khamarpara village in the upazila.
Quoting victim' family members, police said there had been a longstanding rivalry between Nazurl and Ahmed Ali's two sons--Sobhan and Ramzan-- over the ownership of 17 decimals of land.
An altercation took place between Nazrul and the two siblings when Nazrul went to the land around 6:00am. Hearing the news, a group of 15/20 people, led by the two brothers rushed to the land and beat up Nazrul mercilessly, leaving him critically injured.
Locals took him to Sherpur Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
On information, police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy, said Mazharul Karim, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Away in Laxmipur, land dispute left a man dead at Sonapur village in Raipur upazila on Tuesday.
The victim is Abdul Mannan, son of Ismail Hossain of the village.
Quoting locals, police said Mannan locked in an altercation with one Jewel of the village when the latter prevented him from plucking coconut from a disputed garden near their houses.
At one stage, Jewel along with his father Feroz beat up Mannan, leaving him critically injured.
Hearing screams, locals rescued Mannan and took him to Raipur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctors declared him dead, said Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Raipur Police Station.
