Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon reviewed the functioning of the departments of Electric M&RE Wing Kashmir of PDD and Public Health Engineering (PHE) Kashmir. All the concerned officers of the both departments attended the meeting and apprised about functioning of the departments.The Chief Engineer Electric M&RE (PDD) apprised through a PowerPoint presentation about functioning of M&RE Wing Kashmir.The Divisional Commissioner was informed that M&RE Wing Kashmir is responsible for supply of power in Kashmir Valley and collection of revenue from consumers. It was also informed that there are about 8.01 lakh consumers of various categories having registered load of 1116.84 MWs. Presently average peak load of 1000 MWs is served to the consumers with an average curtailment of 3 hours in metered areas and 8 hours in non metered areas.

An amount of Rs. 201 crores has been realized this year from the consumers. R-APDRP is under implementation with estimated cost of Rs. 872 crores for Kashmir province and two new centrally sponsored schemes namely DDUGY for rural areas and IPDS for urban areas has been submitted to union Ministry of Power for an amount of Rs. 615 crores and Rs. 225 crores respectively.The Chief Engineer PHE Kashmir presented PowerPoint presentation about the functioning of the Department. He said that presently the Department is catering to a population of 7136537 souls as on April 01, 2015 of Kashmir province with a rural population of 5274072 souls and urban population of 2399800 souls.

 The Chief Engineer PHE said that in rural areas water supply schemes are taken up under centrally sponsored programme National Rural Drinking Water Mission Programme (NRDWP). He said in small and medium towns some schemes are taken up under Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT), while as in Srinagar city the Department is executing 02 major water supply schemes under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM).He said that the Department of PHE has so far established 40 Water Testing Laboratories at district and Sub Divisional level including Central Water Testing Lab at Zainakote, 09 Water Testing Labs are proposed to be constructed during the current financial year.The Divisional Commissioner stressed upon both the departments for providing better facilities to improve and collection of revenue from the consumers of the both the departments. Besides, this the concerned departments should pursue implementation of Centrally sponsored schemes within timeline.
