Turkish Airlines flight makes emergency landing in Warsaw

ISTANBUL

A Turkish Airlines (THY) plane flying Thursday from Istanbul to the U.S. city San Francisco made an emergency landing in Polish capital Warsaw after a mobile phone was found in the cabin, according to the THY press office.

The plane and the phone have been checked and security staff did not find anything to prevent the flight from continuing, so the plane took off from Warsaw Chopin Airport to San Francisco, the office said.

The scheduled "TK-79" flight had departed from Istanbul Ataturk Airport at 1.30 p.m. local time (1030 GMT). While on air, the pilot contacted the airport traffic control tower at Warsaw Chopin Airport and landed for abundance of caution.

Security measures have been taken around the plane and the passengers led into the terminal, as the cabin and the mobile phone were checked.
