More ‘Suicide Squad’ Set Leakes Tease Origins of The Joker And Harley Quinn

One storyline that fans are excited to watch unfold in the upcoming Suicide Squad film is the backstory between Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and the Joker (Jared Leto). Thankfully, new photos have been released from the set that shed a little more light on what we can expect to see from these characters in the coming movie.

According to ScreenCrush, Quinn, who is also known by the name Dr. Harleen Quinzel, first made her appearance in Batman: The Animated Series. The character, created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, was quick to gain a following and was soon added to lineup of villains in the Batman comics as she gained in popularity.

One of the set photos released by Robbie’s stunt double, Ingrid Kleinig, shows the warehouse related to the origins of the Joker. The photo shows an old Ace Chemicals logo, which hints that this is the warehouse where the Joker received his iconic look. The Ace Chemicals were what caused the Joker’s skin appear white and also changed his hair color.

In the comics, Harley Quinn is also thrown into those same batch of chemicals by the Joker. This left Quinn with a similar appearance. Further, since the film seems to be following the storyline laid out in the comics of the same name, the images released may indicate that Quinn’s origin will be included in the film.

However, while Suicide Squad might be sticking to the comics in some areas, the trailers that have been released so far portray Quinn detached from her initial devotion to the Joker. In fact, the trailer didn’t show one scene with the Joker and Quinn together. Instead, it showed a glimpse at the relationship between Dr. Quinzel and Rick Flagg before she was turned into Quinn.

In addition to the Ace Chemicals photo, other cast members have also released a few shots of the decrepit building. Although the pics were quickly taken down by the cast and crew who posted them, fans were able to get screen shots for everyone to enjoy.

Digital821 posted one image of the interior of the building with the caption, “Ooooo spooky.”

At the same time, another photo, posted by Andy Horwitz, shows the outside of the building with stage lights on. “Lights on lights on lights on lights …” he wrote alongside the image.

Gary Barbosa also uploaded an image of the interior of the warehouse with the caption, “This place is AMAZING! Adventure time!”

Suicide Squad is expected to premiere in theaters on August 5, 2016.
