Greater Jakarta: Two Bekasi men die of bootleg alcohol

T

wo men died in Bekasi, West Java, after drinking a ginseng drink mixed with 95 percent alcohol, an officer from Bekasi Police said on Wednesday.

'€œThe victims died because of inflammation to their digestive lining,'€ said Bekasi Police spokesman Adj. Comr. Siswo as quoted by tempo.co.

The Bekasi residents, identified as Firmansyah and Heru, were taken to hospital on Saturday evening after drinking the bootleg liquor, locally known as oplosan, with three other men.

Firmansyah died in the hospital on Sunday evening and Heru died on Monday afternoon. The three others survived as they only had a sip of the liquor.

The police are currently looking for the oplosan seller, Siswo said.

'€œWe'€™re now looking for the trader based on information from eyewitnesses, the victims bought the liquor already mixed with the 95-percent alcohol,'€ Siswo said, adding that the police would team up with the Bekasi administration in cracking down on illegal liquor sellers.
