The Sub-Regional Office (SRO) of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Vellore has opened a Universal Account Number (UAN) Facilitation Centre at its premises in Sathuvachari here. It will function from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout the week (including Saturdays and Sundays).
According to a release from Himanshu Kumar, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner-II, Vellore, as part of its e-governance initiative, the EPFO has introduced the UAN for its members. This number allows portability of the EPF account from one employer to another without the intervention of the employers.
5 easy steps
The UAN activation process consists of the following five easy steps: get your UAN from employer; visit the EPFO portal www.uanmembers.epfoservices.in and click on the `activate your UAN based registration’ tab; enter your UAN and mobile phone number, EPF account number and select the respective EPF office from the drop-down menu, and click on `Get PIN’; a PIN is sent to the registered mobile number; enter the PIN and next screen will appear where the member will create a password; on completion of the activation, the member is required to log in with the UAN as the user-id and password for accessing the UAN services.
Detailed process
The detailed process has been elaborated in the User Manual which can be downloaded from the EPFO website, www.epfindia.gov.in.
The PF Commissioner said that while it has been made mandatory for the employers to disseminate the UAN to the employees and to get them activated within 15 days of such dissemination, it has come to the notice of the EPFO that very few employers have disseminated the UAN and got them activated.
The SRO is also conducting training sessions to assist the employers in the UAN processes from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
The employers and EPF subscribers have been requested to make use of the UAN Facilitation Centre.
