A seven-member inter-district gang involved in cheating lakhs of rupees from people in the name of providing mythical Hanuman coins was nabbed from a lodge in Phulbani of Kandhamal district in Odisha.
One revolver, iron rods and seven mobile phones were seized from their possession.
According to police sources, the gang was rounded up while they were planning to murder a person who wanted to procure Hanuman coins from them.
The plan was to take heavy amount from their victim and then murder him.
After taking Rs. 25, 000 from the victim, they had called him to a lodge in Phulbani. He was a resident of Bhubaneswar who had been lured to buy mythical Hanuman coins by a person of Kandhamal district.
The arrested members included one from Bhubaneswar, two each from Ganjam and Bolangir districts, one each from Kandhamal and Kalhandi districts.
All members of the gang were involved in several cases of dacoity and robberies in different parts of Odisha.
People believe that mythical Hanuman coins have magical powers and spend huge amounts to procure them.
In March, two major criminal gangs come together to commit a double murder in Ganjam district in the name of selling such coins.
