MP seeks Centre’s help to tackle fluoride problem

July 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:08 am IST - ONGOLE:

YSR Congress Whip in Parliament Y.V. Subba Reddy has urged Union Minister for Rural Development Ch. Birender Singh to accord top priority to resolve the problem of high fluoride content in drinking water in 14 mandals of Prakasam district.

Submitting a memorandum to the Union Minister in New Delhi recently, the Ongole MP drew the latter’s attention to the severity of the fluoride problem in over 50 villages, which had been compounded because of severe drought in the district.

The Minister assured the MP of sanctioning reverse osmosis plants as a short term measure in the villages where the fluoride content was more than 5 ppm and provision of surface water from the Nagarjunasagar reservoir to all the affected villages as a long term measure.
