DRI sleuths found 25kg of narcotics substance from amphetamine in hollow wire cables electronic items and beef protein.
Chennai: In two separate cases of seizures, investigators from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized Rs 2.5 crore worth narcotics substance from a house in North Chennai and Rs 5.2 crore worth electronic items imported as wooden doors from Malaysia during the last two days.
DRI sleuths found that a gang was engaged in filling 25 kg narcotics substance called amphetamine in hollow wire cables at a residential premise in Kannadasan Nagar in north Chennai.
This is the first time DRI is unearthing a narcotics concealing and packing unit in Chennai.
During the search at the suspects’ house it was found that two individuals were engaged in concealing the psychotropic substance in yellow colour wiring cables that were cut to specific lengths so as to hold 5 gm each of the narcotics powder and sealing the both ends using sealing machine.
The cables filled with chemicals were concealed further in travel bags to enable to be taken out of the country through the international airport without being noticed by the customs department.
The DRI arrested two masterminds of the entire operation identified as Ajeem Khasali and Mohamed Ismail.
In the second seizure at Chennai harbour, the sleuths found two container full of LED televisions, audio systems, air conditioners, cigarettes, high value protein supplements and cosmetic smuggled in from Malaysia declared as wooden doors.
The movement of these containers were monitored and intercepted and physical examinations revealed that solid wooden doors were stalked in a manner to give an impression that the entire container was full of the similar doors. There were 4,000 carton boxes containing various contraband goods.
