NAGPUR:Flaying authorities for inaction over removing encroaching from busy Bhandara road, the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court, on Wednesday, asked commissioner of police on why the entire stretch, where congestion is severe, can’t be converted into a ‘no-parking zone’.
Justices Bhushan Gavai and Indira Jain directed government pleader to inform the commissioner of police about court’s instructions and granted a week’s time to reply.

The court’s poser came while hearing a PIL filed by social worker Anil Agre, through counsel Shrirang Bhandarkar, who alleged that due to inaction of government agencies and local municipal bodies like NMC, NIT, police, PWD and MSEDCL, in removing encroachments on Bhandara road and footpaths, the area has become a nuisance for motorists and pedestrians.
The petitioner pointed out stretches where congestion is severe, including Central Avenue, between Adamshah to Gomti square till Pardi Octroi post. He brought to fore various forms of encroachments defacing the road which is endangering human lives and leading to mishaps.
On entire stretch of road, there is a vegetable market from 3-9pm which make the matters worst. Moreover, the civic bodies also failed to remove electric poles that came in middle of roads after expansion. Due to encroachments and congestions, about 139 accidents took place on this ever busy road that led to 65 persons losing their precious lives, Agre said.
