Chargesheet filed against Farooqui

Delhi Police on Wednesday filed chargesheet in a trial court against “Peepli Live” co-director Mahmood Farooqui alleging that had he raped an American research scholar at his residence in Delhi.

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Wednesday filed chargesheet in a trial court against “Peepli Live” co-director Mahmood Farooqui alleging that had he raped an American research scholar at his residence in Delhi.
Accusing Farooqui of committing offences punishable under sections 376 (rape) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the IPC, police filed the chargesheet before additional chief metropolitan magistrate Devender Kumar Garg, who took cognizance of it and posted the matter for August 1.

In its chargesheet, police has alleged that Farooqui had raped a 30-year-old research scholar from Columbia University at his Sukhdev Vihar house on March 28 this year. According to sources, police has listed some 15 prosecution witnesses including a common friend who claimed to have seen the woman reach Farooqui’s house on the day of the incident.
Police has also annexed medical reports of the alleged victim to prove the allegation that she was raped by Farooqui. Farooqui was arrested on June 20 and has been in judicial custody since then.
The research scholar in her complaint filed at New Friends colony police station has alleged that Farooqui raped her when she went to meet him for her research work.
The copy of the emails, in which Farooqui had apologized for assaulting her were also attached to the chargesheet as evidence, sources said.
