Man charged with IRA membership at late court sitting

A man has appeared before a late night sitting of the Special Criminal Court on Wednesday night charged with membership of the IRA.

Ryan Glennon (24) was arrested on Wednesday morning by members of the Special Detective Unit as part of an ongoing operation in to dissident republican activity in the Dublin area.

Mr Glennon, of Macken Villas, Macken Street, Dublin 2 is charged with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State, namely Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the Irish Republican Army, otherwise the IRA on May 13th, 2015.

Detective Sergeant Padraig Boyce told State Solicitor Mr Michael O’Donovan that he formally arrested the accused Ryan Glennon at Londonbridge Road, Dublin 4 at 5:16pm on Wednesday evening.

The court heard that Mr Glennon, who appeared before the court wearing a pink t-shirt and jeans, made no reply to his arrest or caution.

The court registrar then read over the charge to Mr Glennon, who did not stand when requested.

Presiding judge Mr Justice Paul Butler, sitting with Judge Alison Lindsay and Judge William Hamill, remanded Mr Glennon in custody to appear before the court via video link this Friday, July 31st.
