PAT chief launches curriculum books promoting peace, harmony.

ISLAMABAD: The terrorists misinterpret Jihad and Islam and they believe that killing disbelievers is lawful, said Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri. He was speaking at the launching of the Urdu version of his books on Islamic curriculum, peace, and counter-terrorism, here on Wednesday.

Qadri spoke on the need for an alliance between the civil government and the military besides reforms in madrassas with respect to their syllabus. He said no subject was being taught in the madrassas on counter-terrorism.

Recalling the move to register seminaries during General (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s tenure, he said “There was a move that all seminaries will be registered but everything was compromised in order to win votes.” However, the only action against terrorism was being taken by army at the moment, he added.

“There is a need to have a counter narrative. I want a fully-fledged syllabus for those people who were exploited and brainwashed. I have written 25 books that have been published including 12 in English, 13 in Urdu and Arabic besides five curriculum books in Urdu,” he said, adding there were 20 other books which are text books for the curriculum.

“There is a 900-page book on what Jihad is and is not,” he said.

He said our educational institutes do not teach humanity. “I have been working on this curriculum since the last five years and this work continued during the dharna last year in Islamabad,” he said.

“We are an example of the lack of justice 14 people were massacred by the police no justice has been meted after one year and there had been no impartial investigations undertaken that’s why they did not take part in proceedings of Joint Investigation Teams (JITs). He said the government has power, can start any propaganda they want If someone becomes ill they start a campaign that he has done a deal.

“We reject all kinds of deals and families of the 14 martyrs [of Model Town incident] are poor and the government tried to buy poor people but it failed,” he said.
