The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday registered a preliminary enquiry into the mysterious death of an accused in the Vyapam scam case.

Jitendra Yadav (21) had died from drowning at his native place Orchha in Madhya Pradesh in June 2007. “The State police had named him as one of the accused persons in the Vyapam scam,” said a CBI official.

The CBI has so far instituted separate inquiries into the deaths of eight persons linked to the scam.
