New Tehri, July 29

Tehri District Magistrate Yugal Kishore Pant yesterday inspected villages in the Ghansali block that were hit by a cloudburst on July 26. He took stock of disaster management works being undertaken by the administration.

The District Magistrate directed officials to temporarily stop the movement of heavy vehicles through the Asena Bridge. He asked THDC officials to open the bypass for the commuters of the region.

Pant, while addressing mediapersons, said nearly 65 villages in the region required immediate rehabilitation. He directed officials to construct safety walls in the Dagi Devta region under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MNREGA) Act.

He said compensation would be released to the affected families after a thorough assessment of the damage caused due to the recent cloudburst.

The District Magistrate also took stock of the damaged bridge at Pilkhi and paths at Banchuri and Baunla villages and told officials to repair them.
