TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - University of Arizona officials are looking for ways to bridge a $25 million funding gap caused by state budget reductions.
The Arizona Daily Star reports (https://bit.ly/1DbbXcI) some departments are reducing staff as deans and vice presidents campus-wide cut between 3 and 4 percent of their budgets.
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences dean Shane Burgess has to cut $1.4 million from his department’s budget. He said staff has been removed from the central administration office, with similar measures being taken in related departments.
UA Libraries dean Karen Williams says an $800,000 drop in funding will not be made up with layoffs.
Campus policing, maintenance and health sciences are also reducing costs.
The total number of layoffs will be presented at the Board of Regent’s Sept. 24 meeting.
