Gauteng legislature Speaker Ntombi Mekgwe donates to needy children, 30 Jul

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) Speaker, Honourable Ntombi Mekgwe, will tomorrow lead a delegation on a visit a special school and a home of children living with cerebral palsy in the East Rand. The visits are part of GPL’s efforts to heed the call by the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the United Nations for all Citizens of the world to devote 67 minutes of their time to helping others on July 18, in honour of International Nelson Mandela Day.

The GPL delegation has scheduled tomorrow’s visits as follows:
Date: Thursday, 30 July 2015
Time: 09h00

Address 1:
The Felicitas School for the Physically and Intellectually Challenged Corner of Muriel Brand Street & Gordon Road, Brenthurst, Brakpan, 1540

Address 2:
The Vita Nova Home, 2 Fish Eagle Road, Daggafontein, Springs

Although a week after the actual birthday of former President Mandela, the gesture still carries the same impact in continuing his legacy by extending kindness to those who have limited means to help themselves. GPL identified Felicitas School as it is one of the schools that provide education and training to mentally and physically handicapped learners in the Brakpan area. Vita Nova is a Home that caters for persons with Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism and the Physically and Mentally challenged (including children who are blind, deaf or have HIV/AIDS). Both facilities are constantly in need of assistance and survive on donations and assistance from other organisations and individuals willing to assist.

The visits will include the donation of food items, bedding and other amenities to children; as well as time spent with them as a gesture of kindness and compassion. GPL aims to build sustainable relations with the two facilities, and commit to serve and attend to the needs of those less fortunate. GPL encourages the people of Gauteng to dedicate efforts to making an impact in the lives of others, beyond the 67 minutes of Mandela Day.
