BHOPAL: Decomposed body of a man was found stuffed in a sack at Dussehra Maidan here on Tuesday morning. The case was later registered in TT Nagar police station of the city. Identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
This is not the first time that a body has been discarded in a sack in Bhopal. There was a halt in such incidents for the past some months.
However, the fresh incident has again brought the issue into focus.
Police suspected the man was murdered elsewhere and his body was thrown at Dussehra Maidan. Officials said they came to know from a woman in the morning about the body beside a nullah. Subsequently, it was recovered and sent for an autopsy.
Manoj Jaat has been tattooed on one of the hands of the deceased. It is suspected to be his name. The man appeared to be around 35 years of age.
Police said they have informed nearby police stations and are going through missing-persons reports.
The body, with injures on head and other body parts, was believed to be thrown around five days back, but no one noticed it due to the rain. It was only after it began to stink that it was spotted by passersby.
Police said the accused appeared to be from a middle-class family and the way body had been tied to fit in the sack points towards the possibility that he was murdered inside a house and later body was discarded.
Officials said efforts are underway to ascertain identity of deceased as the accused could only be nabbed thereafter.
