NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Funeral services will be held Thursday for Carolyn Bason Long, widow of U.S. Sen. Russell B. Long of Louisiana.

Joseph Gawler’s Sons Funeral Director Brian Daniel, in a news release Tuesday, said that Carolyn Long died in her sleep Monday at her home in Bethesda, Maryland. She was 92.

Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at National Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C.



On Dec. 23, 1969, Bason married Long, who preceded his wife in death in 2003. She devoted much of her time to charitable and cultural causes, particularly in promoting historic preservation and the performing arts. She was also a booster for the State of Louisiana, frequently visiting to lend her support to educational and cultural enterprises.

She is survived by five nieces and nephews.
