Cops nab killer of techie sisters

22-year-old alleged assailant had been hiding in UP, Rajasthan and Shirdi

Hyderabad: Two weeks after two sisters were killed by a vindictive stalker; the Cyberabad police arrested Amit Singh, a B.Com student of Jagruthi College, Koti, on Tuesday.

Amit, who confessed to the crime, had spent some time at the Ajmer Dargah and met a priest asking him to help “speak to the soul of Srilekha”, one of his two murder victims. The priest reportedly told him that the victim’s soul was not available to talk and he should come back after 40 days

The 22-year-old alleged assailant had been hiding in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and in Shirdi, before he came to Hyderabad and was caught by a vehicle-checking party of Medchal police.

Police went on a wild goose chase for two weeks, as Amit travelled through six states. With his knowledge of mobile networks and computers, he took changed his SIM cards and phones frequently to evade the police.

“After committing the murder, he escaped to Kazipet, from where he took a train to Itarsi in Madhya Pradesh. From there, he went to his native place in Mathura by train. Suspecting police presence in Mathura, he went and stayed a night in Agra,” Cyberabad commissioner of police C.V. Anand said.

“He then went to Ajmer Dargah via Jaipur. He met a baba and expressed his wish to talk to the slain victim’s soul. But the baba asked him to come back after 40 days, as the ‘atma’ was not available,” Mr Anand said

“From Ajmer, he went to Surat and then to Shirdi, where he stayed for three days. He again went to Mathura and met his parents to take shelter. He escaped, and came back to Hyderabad,” said the commissioner.

Investigation officials said that Amit had been stalking his victim constantly even after her family shifted to LB Nagar from their native place in Mahbubnagar.

After the victim’s family shifted to LB Nagar, Amit took a room in the same area and was stalking Srilekha. “About two months prior to the murder, Srilekha warned the accused. He developed a grudge and decided to kill her. Accordingly, he bought knives, wire etc, and came to her house. He attacked her and her sister Yamini before fleeing,” said LB Nagar DCP Tafseer Iqubal.
