After more than a decade of planning, the Boston Public Market officially opens Thursday.
The 28,000-square-foot retail market features 37 vendors and an assortment of New England products. The market, which is above the Haymarket MBTA station along Congress Street, is expected to remain open Wednesday through Sunday year-round and offer food, drinks, and locally crafted goods.
Each vendor rents its individual stall from the Boston Public Market Association, a nonprofit that oversees the project. The stalls range from 100 to 800 square feet.
The $13 million space is Boston's first year-round indoor public market since Quincy Market fell into disrepair in the 1950s.

"If you start looking at the design that the vendors have created, you'll see their character comes through," said Tiffani Emig, the market manager.
Taza Chocolate of Somerville has filled its space with a drink bar and two Mexican stone mills imported from Oaxaca. The company plans to grind cocoa beans on site and use the chocolate in its drinks.
Next door Mother Juice will sell organic cold-pressed juices, smoothies, and salads in a stall decorated with wood accents and succulents. A vintage cider press is the focal point of Red Apple Farm's space near the main entrance of the market.
Hopsters Alley, located along the back wall of the market, is the definition of a local liquor store. The store, from the same owner that runs Hopsters brewery in Newton, is stocked with more than 300 local beers and spirits.
"We're just really excited to be able to showcase, in Downtown Boston, the great brews of Massachusetts and New England," said owner Lee Cooper. "You're not going to find Absolut Vodka here."
