Watch Will Ferrell ‘Take the Field’ in Documentary Trailer
Will Ferrell stepped up to the plate this spring when he joined 10 different MLB teams for spring training in Arizona. His adventure has been captured on film, and the first official trailer for HBO‘s Ferrell Takes the Field now previews his baseball debut.
“When I embarked on this journey, I thought to myself, ‘Could I do it?'” Ferrell reflects during a speech. The preview shows Ferrell on various fields with all of the teams he joined. With each team, he found himself taking on a different role both on and off the field. The clip shows him pitching, batting and even holding a sign that compliments a player’s looks. “I brought passion to the field, dedication, ability and a lot of ignorance,” Ferrell says.
The special will raise funds for several cancer-fighting charities, with all of Ferrell’s visits occurring over one day in March. Even with the more triumphant tone of the documentary, Ferrell will still bring his signature slapstick humor and absurdity to the special. “We say nothing’s more American than grabbing a hot dog, heading to the ballpark and watching nine guys from the Dominican Republic make magic on the field,” he says. “You know what? Today, I learned they are wrong. Make that eight Dominicans and one guy from Irvine, California.”
Last month, Ferrell starred opposite Kristen Wiig in his Lifetime debut A Deadly Adoption, a melodrama about a couple who invite the pregnant woman they plan on adopting a child from to live in their home.
Ferrell Takes the Field will air at 10:00 p.m. EST on September 12th.
