Attacked by shark? 8-foot-long oarfish found off Antique

An oarfish, the so-called King of Herrings, measuring eight feet long was found off the coast of Antique province last week.

A fisherman saw the oarfish floating and believed it was attacked by a shark off Barangay Igdanlog in Tobias Fornier town, GMA Iloilo reported.

The fisherman found the fish early morning of July 23, Ratsada 24 reported.

An article on National Geographic said the giant oarfish (Regalecus glesne) is rarely seen because it is a deep sea dwelling fish.

Giant oar fish are the longest known living species of bony fish and could reach up to 56 feet long and weigh up to 600 pounds.
