The Tirupur Railway Station stands top in entire Salem Railway Division when it comes to tickets issued through the automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs), official sources told The Hindu .

According to railway officials, every day almost 2,000 people are obtaining unreserved travel tickets, platform tickets as well as renewing their season tickets through the two ATVMs placed in Tirupur railway station.

The officials attribute the high level of patronage of the machines in Tirupur, which is much higher than the usage at Salem Junction that headquarters the Division, to many factors.

Factors

“Lesser number of ticket counters vis-à-vis the heavy rush of daily commuting migrant workers in the buzzing apparel cluster of Tirupur just minutes before train departures and relatively well positioned ATVMs offering good visibility to even the first comer to Tirupur railway station when compared to some other stations, are found to be major factors that is leading to good patronage of the ATVMs in Tirupur,” pointed out some railway officials here. For large number of season ticket holders who travel everyday from Tirupur to Palakkad, Coimbatore and Salem, the ATVMs have come in handy.

Convenience

“We can conveniently renew the season tickets without having to stand in long queues”, said Hari Chalavara, a shipping consultant and season ticket holder from Tirupur to Shoranur in Kerala.

In Tirupur, the passengers also have the option of utilising round-the-clock services of ATVM facilitators who were posted to assist the travellers to procure tickets.
