British-born nail artist Bel Fountain Townsend (aka So Hot Right Nail) joined us on set for this month’s cover. While brainstorming nail art concepts, she was watching a Katy Perry video with her 2-year-old son and got an idea: recreate the beading on one of the singer’s headdresses on the nails. For the shoot, Townsend sourced tons of tiny beads, focusing mostly on color and size. The day of, she extended the model’s nails with clear tips to create a bigger canvas. Next, after applying a gold and silver base on alternating fingers, she applied the beads, keeping the design away from the edge of the nails to avoid the appearance of too much width. The end result: Fun and flirty 3-D beaded nails!
