Mosquito threat: South civic body moves against JNU, NCERT

The most number of cases have been reported from north Delhi at 15, while east Delhi recorded the lowest number with eight cases.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has taken action against educational institutes like Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), and various other government offices after it found mosquito-breeding sites on their premises.

“We took action against the following places last week after we found mosquitoes breeding during inspections — NCERT, JNU hostels, NSIT at Dwarka, DTC depots at Barapullah, Sewa Nagar, Dwarka sectors 1 and 8, and cluster bus depot on the Ring Road, construction sites of Metro stations at Sector-1 Dwarka and Janakpuri, BSES offices at National Park, Lajpat Nagar, CPWD office at INA,” N K Yadav, SDMC medical health officer, said.

He also said action has been taken against Kendriya Vidyalaya and Sarvodya Vidyalaya at INA Colony, CISF camp at Mahipalpur, and Centre for Cultural Resource and Training Centre at Sector 7, Dwarka, among other places.

According to a report by the SDMC, at least 40 cases of dengue have been reported till July 25 this year — the highest number for the period in the last five years.

Twenty-three cases have been reported in July, with 11 patients diagnosed in the last week alone.

The most number of cases have been reported from north Delhi at 15, while east Delhi recorded the lowest number with eight cases.

Twelve cases have been recorded in south Delhi, the report said.
