Former Chief Minister and working president of the National Conference Omar Abdullah today described the PDP-BJP coalition government as a “monumental failure and a cruel joke” with the people of the state.

Omar said the “alliance of opportunism” between the two parties had broken every single political, economic and governance-related promise, which they had made collectively and separately before coming to power. He was speaking while launching the party membership drive in Ganderbal and Bandipora districts today.

“This government of U-turns has turned out to be a cruel joke with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Every single promise that the PDP made before the elections has been sold to the BJP to ensure that Mufti Sahib remains in the Chief Minister’s chair,” Omar said. He added that not only had the PDP-BJP alliance failed to rehabilitate the flood victims, but it had also chosen to add insult to injury by arbitrarily raising state taxes, which would directly affect the common man and result in inflation.

“This government is deriving sadistic pleasure from persecuting and harassing the common man as a payback for widespread discontent and opposition to the PDP’s sell-out to the BJP,” Omar said.

Omar said the PDP had failed to uphold its promise of revoking AFSPA and had surrendered that demand along with other pretensions for the sake of power.
