HANOVER, Va. (AP) - Police in Hanover County say no charges will be filed in the accidental shooting of a 7-year-old girl by her 5-year-old brother.
The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office says in a news release that the shooting occurred Saturday while the children were with a family visiting a home for sale in Beaverdam.
The release says the children had followed a cat into a bedroom, and one of them followed the cat under a bed where a handgun was stored.
The Sheriff’s Office says the boy had the gun and shot his sister in the leg. The victim’s injuries weren’t serious.
The Sheriff’s Office conferred with the county commonwealth’s attorney and determined no criminal charges would be filed.
