Body found in Vikhroli: Two more arrested from Gujarat

Rohit Singh, 25, was reported missing by his brother Rahul on July 10, when he did not return home. His body was later found in a sewer near V D Ground in Vikhroli East, on the morning of July 13, by locals who reported a foul smell. Rahul identified his brother from the wrist watch and the pants on the body. Police said that three persons Bhandari, Pradip Goswami (22) and Devendrakumar Goswami (22) allegedly killed Rohit with an iron rod and a large stone.

“According to the statements of Pradip and Devendrakumar, Rohit had been extorting money from them for the last couple of months,” said Dr Vinaykumar Rathod, Deputy Commissioner of Police, zone VII. The DCP said the murder was committed on the night of July 10 after the duo roped in Bhandari.

Bhandari was arrested by the Crime Branch Unit VII. He allegedly told the investigators that Pradip and Devendrakumar had stolen Singh’s phone and were currently using it.

“We roped in a cyber expert who traced the accused to Vapi in Gujarat. The accused were switching SIM cards, but using the same phone. We traced the phone’s location through the international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) number,” an investigating officer said. The IMEI is a 15-digit serial number encoded inside a cell phone that has been useful in locating lost or stolen mobiles.

“The accused have been arested on charges of murder and destroying evidence,” Rathod added.
