A major fire broke out on July 21 at a shopping complex in Bandra West, gutting many garment and footwear shops on the ground and first floors of the complex. No casualties were reported. According to a report submitted by the fire department, each of the five malls listed were found to have violated the floor space index (FSI) norms.
A total of 69 violations — ranging from combustible material found stacked in the basement of one mall to a diagnostic centre containing objects posing a high fire risk — were pointed out.
