My father was quite hesitant to slap me
After the under-appreciated Poriyaalan, Harish Kalyan will be next seen in Vil Ambu, directed by Ramesh Subramaniam, a former assistant of Suseenthiran. Talking about the film, he says, I play an aspiring photographer in Coimbatore. He has a strict father, who wants him to pursue a normal career. You could say he is like the father character in Em Mahan. It is a character that plays a crucial role in my characters transformation.
Interestingly, Harishs real-life dad Kalyan, plays this character in the film.
He has been in the industry for over 20 years, but he is acting on-screen for the first time. His real-life character is quite different from that of what you see in the film. He might have been strict when I was a child, but now, he is very approachable, he says.
Ask him if there was any memorable moment shooting with his dad and he says, In one scene, he had to slap me. He was quite hesitant to slap me because he hasnt hit me since my teenage years. So, the director then told him to hit me for real. So, in the end, he actually hit me.
