Why Salman agreed to work in Sultan

According to Salman’s friend, the actor has always been encouraging of new directors

Salman Khan will be seen playing a boxer in Sultan directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Interestingly, Zafar’s previous works include Mere Brother ki Dulhan (which didn’t do too well at the box office) and Gunday (which received mixed reviews). Why then, would a star like Salman want to associate with the director?

According to Salman’s friend, the actor has always been encouraging of new directors and wanted to give this project a chance too. Although he was skeptical in the beginning, the idea of playing a boxer really appealed to Salman. Zafar convinced him that getting the physique of a boxer wouldn’t be much of a task given Salman’s body.

Says his close friend, “At a time when nobody was willing to work with a new director named Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Salman agreed to play the lead in a heroine-oriented film like Khamoshi, The Musical. Over the years he has constantly encouraged and nurtured new directors — be it Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao in Lucky, Puneet Issar in Garv or even his brothers Sohail and Arbaaz. He insisted that his pal Sajid Nadiadwala direct Kick when Sajid was not inclined to turn director at all.”
