HUBBALLI: Various organizations and educational institutions paid tributes to former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, who passed away on Monday evening.
Ram Mohan HK, principal of Dr RB Patil PU College, said that Kalam is an inspiration to the teaching fraternity and called upon youths consider the leader as their role model. Lecturers Atma S, Sapna Javali and Poornanand Malali spoke on Kalam’s contribution to the country.

Journalism students organized a condolence ceremony at SVPMVP’s Smt MJ Somani Arts and Commerce Degree College for Women. Principal DP Manakatti, Anita Kembavi, Renuka Gangur and RD Mallanagoudra spoke on the occasion. Members of SP Dharmagoudar Geleyara Balaga, too, offered their condolences. Gurunath Ullikashi said that Kalam believed in simple living and high thinking. Kuber Pawar, Padmaraj Ilkal, Chandrashekhar Paradeshi, Rajanna Salimath and others were present on the occasion.
A condolence meeting was conducted at Nehru Arts, Science, Commerce, BBA, BCA College and PG Centre. Anjuman-e-Islam president Jabbarkhan Honnalli read the condolence message. Management members Abdul Wahab Mulla, Imam Hussain Madaki, Abrar Makandar, Syed Ahmed Madan, principals MF Ansari and MA Shivalli spoke on the occasion. A two-minute silence was observed.
At the BJP office, city district BJP president Lingaraj Patil said that the demise of Kalam has created a huge vacuum in the nation. “He was the real Bharat Ratna,” he said.
BJP rural district president MR Patil, former MLAs Ashok Katwe, Veerabhadrappa Halaharavi, state BJP secretary N Ravikumar and others were present.
The Bar Association in Hubballi offered condolences and as per the wish of Kalam, advocates worked for an additional one hour. Association president CR Patil, vice-president AC Navalur, 1st district additional and sessions judge Gopalkrishna Kolli, advocates AC Navalur, GF Hiremath, MG Neelamanth spoke on the occasion.
