Kavita Kaushik aka Chandramukhi Chautala from FIR is seen in a sensuous avatar these days in ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Reloaded’. Catch Kavita in a candid chat with TimesTV:
Who is your favourite judge on ‘Jhalak...’?
They are all my judges, they are not my friends that I will have someone who is my favourite or I’ll think about favouritism or whom do I like the most.
I look at them as my judges and nothing beyond that. So I have equal amount of respect for them.
Your chemistry with your choreographer Rajit Dev is being appreciated by the judges. How is your rapport with him?
We have high levels of respect for each other. I have very, very high regards for his talents and I guess so does he. We try not to get into each other’s space and we try to maintain a professional equation. He is a very good human being apart from being a talented choreographer and director. So it is not difficult to get along with him. It is fun.
People recognise you as Chandramukhi Chautala from your show FIR. Are you like Chandramukhi in your personal life too?

I am actually... I am a lot like Chandramukhi. Chandramukhi stems out of Kavita. Like I would get out and help other people; I would stand up for other people just like Chandramukhi did. I feel for other people and I’m compassionate towards them. It comes very naturally to me maybe because it is in my genes- my father is a very caring man.
Again Kavita is very mastikhor while Chandramukhi is fun too. Both of us also don’t like injustice. As I said if injustice is done to others we would stand up to that. I have strong likes and dislikes, just like Chandramukhi.
Which is easier for you- acting or dancing?
Acting and dancing are two different worlds altogether. I have been into acting and I have learnt a lot. Of course when I started acting I was not always as good as I am now. It took me a lot of different roles, a lot of different characters, shows and projects to be where I am as an actor. Today if I am given a scene I would do it much better than what I would have done 14 years back when I had started. As for dancing—especially when you have not been trained then of course it would be a new world for you. I am exploring and I am enjoying it.

So what are the challenges you are facing in ‘Jhalak...’?
Of course preparing for a dance every week! We just have four hours to prepare everyday in which we have to prepare the entire dance, that itself is a very big challenge which everyone has in hand.
And what about the fun on the sets of ‘Jhalak...’?
There’s lots of fun! Everyone who is participating is a very good human being. They are all very loving, caring, sweet and fun. And they play pranks and support each other which is great. People are always getting food on the sets. Like Sanaya is always getting some good home cooked food and treating us all. It’s a good fun that we have on the sets. I hang out a lot with Sanaya and Ashish Chowdhary. Rafter is my brother now while Scarlet is very sweet.
