After considering the good conduct of prisoners of Hindalga central prison in Belagavi, Karnataka Government has agreed to release 80 prisoners after the recommendations of Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC), said C.G. Hunagund, member of KSHRC.
Mr. Hunagund was speaking during his visit to the Bijapur central prison here on Monday when one of the prisoners urged the member to recommend his release as he has already served twenty years in the jail.
“The Commission has already made its recommendations, now the decision is with the Government to take final call,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Hunagund was informed by the jail authorities here that they have recommended the release of eight prisoners considering their good conduct.
Mr. Hunagund also visited the unit where prisoners prepared readymade products such as mats and suggested the district administration to set-up a special shop to exhibiting and selling the product manufactured by the prisoners.
“The selling would not only give some additional revenue to the jail but the products would also get popularity. The attempt should be made also by the jail authorities in this regard,” he said.
Earlier during the day, Mr. Hunagund visited the district hospital, Bal Mandir and several government hostels. During his visit, he checked the quality of food and other facilities provided to the patients and the students.
After visiting the hospital, he said that he has already visited twenty two government hospitals of the State, and claimed that he found the facilities and infrastructure of the Vijayapura district hospital better than other hospitals. He however stated that every district hospital was facing shortage of doctors and nurses.
At the Bal Mandir, he felt the need to set up a computer centre for the students at the Mandir for the students to gain computer knowledge.
