VADODARA: The opposition in the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) demanded that the gardens in the city must be cleaned and kept open till late.
The demand has been made in wake of the ensuing Gauri Vrat fasting by girls when they visit the gardens extensively.
The Gauri Vrat is scheduled to begin from Wednesay and last for six days. Unmarried girls pray to Lord Shiva during the period to seek a good life partner.
Gardens in the city a brimming with girls during the period.
Former leader of opposition and opposition Congress councillor in VMC Chirag Zaveri has demanded that the gardens lacked basic amenities and were in a bad shape. The civic body, he said, needed to work on them for the fasting.
He added that the VMC also needed to beef up security at the gardens to ensure safety of the girls who visited the gardens on these days. He also insisted on beefing up security during the period at the garden. Zaveri has also asked the civic body to increase lighting at the gardens.
