Preet, Dhyana finish on top

Preet Seth of Gondal and Dhyana Patel of Ahmedabad finished on top in the boy's and girl's section respectively in the Gujarat State U-13 Selection tournament.

AHMEDABAD: Preet Seth of Gondal and Dhyana Patel of Ahmedabad finished on top in the boy's and girl's section respectively in the Gujarat State U-13 Selection tournament for the national chess championship organized by Tirth Chess Club under the aegis of Gujarat State Chess Association at Sports Club, Navrangpura.
The top two winners from each category will represent Gujarat in the nationals scheduled to be played in Gurgaon.
The results: Boys: 1) Preet Sheth (Gondal), 2) Moksh Doshi (Ahmedabad), 3) Kautilya Thaker (Ahmedabad), 4) Kartavya Anadkat (Ahmedabad). Girls:1) Dhyana Patel (Ahmedabad), 2) Rutvi Shah (Ahmedabad), 3) Vishwa Vasnawala (Ahmedabad), 4) Tisha Panchal (Ahmedabad).
Gujarat open billiards and snooker: The Winsome Realty Gujarat State Open Ranking Billiards and Snooker Tournament 2015 is being jointly organized by Rajpath Club and Gujarat State Billiards Association from August first week onwards. The tournament will be played in three different categories—seniors, juniors and sub-juniors—for both billiards and snooker.
Former national champion Dhwaj Haria is a co-sponsor of the event. However, Haria having joined PSPB will not feature in the event. The age limit for juniors is under 21 years and sub-juniors is under 18 as on December 31, 2015. Registration forms are available at all leading clubs and snooker centers in the city. It can also be filled online at cuesportsindia.com.
The last date of registration is July 26. The draws and fixtures of the event will be declared on August 1. Cash prizes of around Rs 40,000 along with trophies will be up for grabs. Top two winners in each categories will represent Gujarat in the nationals.
Todi triumphs, Malloo close second: Madhur Todi won the monthly medal round for played at Kensville Golf and Country Club with a net score of 67. Madhur braved the wind, intermittent rains and tough conditions to play an excellent round of golf and emerge winner. Close on his heels was Sumit Malloo who scored a net score of 68 to take the runners-up spot. In the skill prizes, Rajiv Tanna won the longest drive (255 yards) title and Parag Kamdar won the closest to the pin contest (at 4'4" on par 3 11th hole).
