More communities in Gujarat seek inclusion in reservation system

Kshatriya community people organized a rally in Jamnagar city to demand reservation in colleges and government jobs. Congress leader Dharmendrasinh Jadeja was part of this rally in his individual capacity. The organizers told media persons that Jamnagar has highest population of Kshatriya samaj and they seek reservation as youths from this community have no jobs.

Similar programme has been planned separately in Sanand town of Ahmedabad district also.

At Talala town in Saurashtra, Brahmin Samaj has demanded reservation. Vijaybhai Thakar from Brahm Samah has sent a letter in this regard t Chief Minister.

In Veraval, various organizations of Lohana community have demanded reservation.

At Visavdar, Soni, Lohana and Brahmin samaj have decided to meet prant(province) officer to demand reservation.

Meanwhile, Other Backward Class(OBC) community is mulling an agitation to protect its reservation. Municipal Corporation level leader Narendra Solanki in his talk to Rajkot based newspaper said that if Patels are included in OBC quota, it will adversely affect the chances of existing OBC category people. OBC communities will hold a public meeting and start agitation if needed to convey the government that it should not include others in OBC category.

In another development, senior minister Nitin Patel who enjoys number 2 position in state cabinet said that Patel community has not made any representation before the government regarding reservation demand. He added that any community has right to express its feelings but such expression or related agitation must not be violent. Government discusses the demands that are brought to it through proper procedure. Any community can make direct representation to Chief Minister. He said there has been no damage due to Patidar agitation and therefore there’s no question of damage control.

In related development, Patidars in Rajkot held a press conference to announce their rally and their agitation programms to seek reservation across the Saurashtra region. Media persons were told that Patidar agitation is just starting, and eventually other communities that are out of the reservation system will be added to this agitation so that they can also demand reservation.

Meanwhile minister Govind Patel who represents Rajkot in Gujarat assembly when asked about ongoing reservation agitation told media persons that as per the Supreme Court guideline it is not possible to give reservation.

Another minister Babubhai Bokhiria when asked also replied that as per the Supreme Court order, it is not possible to give reservation to another community. He said the central government itself requested the Supreme Court to approve reservation for Jat community, but the request was turned down.
