JAMMU, July 27: J&K Branch of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organized a workshop on the proposed GST Regime.
On the occasion, Dr Haseeb Ahmed Drabu, Minister for Finance, Labour, Employment and Culture was the chief guest and Sat Sharma, MLA Jammu West was the guest of honour.
Bashir Ahmed and Atul Kumar Gupta, Central Council Member, ICAI   were the guest speakers. Both the speakers are also members of empowered committee on GST constituted by Ministry of Finance Government of India.
In his address, Dr Drabu said he was in favour of implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act but certain issues and State specific concerns need to be addressed.
He requested the J&K Chapter of ICAI to form a “Sub Working Group” on GST along with other members from trade and industry, Commercial Taxes Department and Legal Experts so that concerns of J&K State are sorted out before final implementation of GST which is expected to implemented countrywide from April 1, 2016 onwards.
Dr Drabu also assured the Chartered Accountants that issues pertaining to the fraternity raised by them earlier shall be addressed and a formal notification will be issued soon.
While speaking, Sat Sharma emphasised that GST was one of the most important tax reforms since independence and underscored that its implementation would help in integration of J&K with rest of the country.
In the first technical session, CA Atul Kumar Gupta gave a detailed power point presentation on GST and while comparing the same to current tax structure and highlighted its benefits to Government (Centre and State), Businessmen and end users.
Later on, in the second technical and interactive session, Bashir Ahmed, retd IAS, deliberated on roadmap of GST to J&K. He also addressed to the queries of participants.
Chairman J&K Branch of ICAI, CA Anil Sharma delivered the inaugural address and emphasized that GST was a game changing tax reform and it will help in bridging the gap between Centre and State.
CA Shalay Razdan, Secretary J&K Branch of ICAI, conducted the proceedings of the seminar and vote of thanks was presented by Vice-Chairman, CA Deepak Kapahi.
CA Dalip Kaul and CA Sandeep Pachnanda, Members of Executive Committee, Zaffer A Shah, Commissioner Commercial Taxes J&K, Anoo Malhotra Additional Commissioner Commercial Taxes, (Adm) Jammu, Samita Sethi, Additional Commissioner, Commercial Taxes (SIU), large number of other Senior officials from Commercial Taxes Department, leading businessmen from trade and industry and fraternity of Chartered Accountants were present on the occasion.
