Malekudiya residents of Kataje village near Neriya in Belthangady taluk have told the police that the accused, Gopala Gowda, and his men have unleashed a reign of terror in the region.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Bantwal, Rahul Kumar, told The Hindu that just a few days back the department had conducted a meeting with the residents of areas around Neriya.

The residents had complained that Gowda, a former taluk panchayat member, had been “harassing” the residents for quite some time. The police will hold one more meeting in the area shortly to infuse confidence among the Malekudiya residents, he said.
