Delay in opening of VIMS decried

July 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The CPI(M) demanded that the Government make the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences function immediately and drop any move to bring it under the PPP or any such privatisation methods.

The party’s Maddilapalem zone committee organised a dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Monday on the issue.

Party’s State secretariat member Ch. Narasinga Rao said the huge building was lying waste. The Congress government in the past delayed the project. The TDP government too was delaying its operation.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, when he was in the Opposition and even after coming back to power 14 months ago, reiterated that VIMS would be started, but failed to put it into action, Mr. Narasinga Rao said. The Government should also drop any plans to hand over two blocks of the hospital building to the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital. The estimates have gone up from Rs. 250 crore to Rs. 450 crore and six of the 11 blocks were completed.
