Areas for potential collaboration include engineering from robotics to rubber technology besides cardiology and geriatrics, said Anna University officials. Vice-Chancellor M. Rajaram and Director of Medical Education S. Geethalakshmi signed the memorandum.

According to Dr. Geethalakshmi, all State government hospitals would be included in the project to evaluate the products developed by the university.

The memorandum also includes in its scope launch of joint projects and conduct of short-term certification courses in the interface of medicine, engineering and medical technology.

University Registrar S. Ganesan said the association would only further the university’s efforts in research and development, as it had already offered courses in medical electronics, biomedical engineering, medical physics, biotechnology and pharmaceutical technology in collaboration with reputed medical colleges.

The signatories have also agreed that research publications and commercially exploitable innovations or intellectual property arising from the joint effort will be jointly shared, published or patented as appropriate.

Areas for cooperation include robotics, rubber technology, cardiology and geriatrics
