A 30-year-old physician in Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences from Udupi has the privilege of serving at the Ayush Wellness Clinic inaugurated at the Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi on July 25.
Vikram Pai received his Bachelor’s degree in Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences at SDM College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences (SDMCNYS) at Ujire in Dakshina Kannada district from 2002-06. He was the student of the 14th batch of the college, started in 1989.
Dr. Pai was selected after two rounds of interview for the post of physician at the Ayush Wellness Clinic.
“I was interviewed in the first round by Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN) in June. Then I was interviewed for the second round on July 14,” he said.
“I have joined duty on Monday and we are just settling in. I am really excited about working in the clinic here. I was surprised at getting selected. I want our field of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences to get wider recognition,” he said.
Dr. Pai said that the clinic was meant to render services for employees and officers in the Rashtrapati Bhavan. “If the President calls us for consultation, we are always there,” he said.
“My appointment is for one year. Depending on the demand and performance of the clinic, it might be extended,” Dr. Pai said.
After completing his graduation, Dr. Pai worked as a research assistant at CCRYN for a year.
Then he came to Udupi and worked as a yoga consultant at the A.V. Baliga Memorial Hospital here for two years – 2009 and 2010.
He went back to Delhi during the Commonwealth Games as he was called by Ishwar N. Acharya, who was serving as Assistant Director of Morarji Desai National Institute for Yoga in New Delhi.
He worked as a consultant at the Institute. Incidentally, Dr. Acharya is the student of second batch of SDMCNYS, Ujire, and is now the Director of CCRYN. “Dr. Acharya is my inspiration,” Dr. Pai said.
Dr. Pai will be working with another physician Divya Saraswat, in the Yoga and Naturopathy wing of the clinic.
