The ‘Jana-Mana’ programme organised here on Monday, in which P.T. Parameshwar Naik, Minister of State for Labour and District in-charge interacted with beneficiaries of various welfare schemes, provided a platform for the latter to provide suggestions on how to improve the implementation of schemes.

A common opinion was that ‘Krishi Bhagya’ was a boon for small and marginal farmers but the beneficiaries faced a delay in release of funds for the ‘krishi honda’ constructed in fields and there was a lack of training to operate sprinklers and other equipment.

They added that digging borewells under the scheme would benefit farmers who who depended solely on rain for cultivation.

Children of various schools wanted the ‘Ksheera Bhagya’ scheme, in which milk is provided thrice a week, to be extended to all days to help students from rural areas.

Beneficiaries of ‘Vidyasiri’ suggested that the stipend had to be enhanced so as not to overburden their parents from poor economic backgrounds. Milk producers pointed out that giving an incentive of Rs. 4 per litre of milk was pending and the quality of cattle feed should be improved. They also underlined the need to establish a mega dairy in Ballari owing to the limited capacity of the existing dairy.

Mr. Naik said that he would place their suggestions before the Chief Minister and also the Ministers concerned.

N.Y. Gopalkrishna, MLA, Kamala Mariswamy, vice-president, Karnataka Textile Development Corporation, Humayun Khan, chairman, Ballari Urban Development Authority, Sameer Shukla, Deputy Commissioner, R. Chetan, Superintendent of Police, were also presentCredit taken

Mr. Naik claimed credit for introducing the ‘Vidyasiri’ scheme. Interacting with beneficiaries of the scheme, Mr. Naik said that keeping in view the shortage of hostels and the demand from students, he had suggested to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Social Welfare Minister to provide the needy students, who could not get hostel accommodation, with a certain amount with which they could pursue their higher education.
