While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to divide the people of the country on communal grounds, the Congress is trying to unite the people through secularism, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said.
Mr. Chennithala was addressing a session of the Kollam Block Congress Committee here on Monday. He alleged that the BJP was demolishing democracy to protect the corrupt. Kerala had traditionally upheld secular values, but the BJP was trying to introduce a communal agenda here. The recent State committee resolution of the BJP amply exposed this agenda and this had to be viewed seriously by the secular-minded majority of the State, the Minister said. The people of the State should defeat such moves.
On the other hand, because of a baseless and blind hatred for the Congress, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and other Left parties were unable to see the real enemy.
“Blind hatred for the Congress will only help the BJP. The country badly needs a strong movement against the BJP and it is a folly to think that it can be taken forward by keeping the Congress at bay,” he said.
Mr. Chennithala said that the CPI(M) and the Left Democratic Front were getting weaker by the day. It should be ensured that this situation did not create fertile ground for parties like the BJP to cash in. The prevailing political climate of the State was in favour of the Congress and the United Democratic Front. He called upon the CPI(M) leadership to go for a serious introspection and take corrective steps.
