Expedite construction of in-door stadium: Collector

Officials should ensure prompt execution of various on-going schemes taking due advantage of funds released by the Union Territory of Puducherry, said Collector E. Vallavan.

Addressing officials of various departments here on Sunday, he said a slew of major works were being executed in Karaikal and one of the most important works was the construction of an in-door stadium at an estimate of about Rs. 15 crore on an area of 15,000 square feet.

Explaining the advantages of the indoor stadium which would have state-of-the-art infrastructure including gallery, he advised officials to ensure its completion. “A majority of the work had been completed in accordance with international standards,” he added.

The Collector referred to construction of a new bridge across the Tirumalai Rajanar river which would have a double advantage of being linked with the by-pass road. The work, sanctioned at an estimate of Rs. 12.48 crore, is 83 metres in length and 14.8 metre wide.

He said the construction of the office of the Regional Transport Officer would be completed in course of time. It would be another facility at an estimate of Rs. 2.58 crore on 1.68 hectares.

S. Manickadheepan, Deputy Collector (Revenue), V. Shanmugasundaram, Superintending Engineer, Public Works Department, and G.P. Pazhanivelu, Superintendent of Police, were present.
