As Marc Marquez crossed the line to win the Brno MotoGP today, he surpassed King Kenny Roberts’ record of four victories in a rookie season, which has stood since 1978, and the Spaniard also moved one race closer to securing the championship at his first attempt.

Roberts bagged top spot at Austria, France, Britain and the Nations Grand Prix held at Mugello in his first year of top-flight Grand Prix racing to beat Barry Sheene to the title by ten points. Marquez has now won five races, four on the bounce and goes into this weekend’s Silverstone meeting with more than a race win in hand.
"I didn't know about the records. I am surprised about that but I am very happy because it means we are in a good way and in a good line. It gives to you some motivation, some confidence," said Marquez, speaking after the race.
The young Spaniard has been unstoppable in the last four races, winning them one after another. On Sunday, he closed down reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo, out-thought him and then cleared off, towing his team-mate behind him. Helped in no small measure by a clearly superior motorbike.
Braking was the area where he was better than Lorenzo, he reckoned, but tempered that by adding his fellow Spaniard has more punch out of the turns – usually a Honda strength.
"Jorge's corner speed and corner exit speed was quite good but where I feel strong was on the braking point. Usually, we are strong on exit but today Jorge was a little better,” he said.
"I am very, very happy. The reason is I didn't expect that victory and expected I would struggle a little bit because Dani won here and Jorge also. They are so fast here every year but from the beginning I feel good and improving every time a little bit, which is the most important.
"In the beginning of the race, Jorge push so hard and it was quite difficult for me to follow him but I keep quiet and when I start to feel I can push I enjoy the battle a lot with him."
