Sexual harassment case: Won’t be surprised if student comes out with sting, says Thampu

Thampu said he had never come across in half-a-century a complainant who does not know what her complaints are.

St Stephen’s College Principal Valson Thampu has questioned the intention of the woman, who has levelled allegations of sexual harassment against a college professor, to seek justice.

Pointing to another case of sexual harassment that occurred at the time of the victim’s complaint, Thampu wrote in a post: “Around the same time that this alleged sexual harassment complaint came up, there was another complaint, which the ICC in the college has handled beautifully and effectively, without anyone even in the college coming to know anything about it. Well, that is the way individuals who seek justice secure it; if the intention is to indeed to secure justice.”

Saying that he had “never come across in half-a-century a complainant who does not know what her complaints are”, he added that “there is no evidence of wanting to settle anything at all. Every time she visits the college, the purpose seems to be to create a scene or to improvise a grievance”.

Saying that he would not be surprised if the student did another sting, he wrote: “Today the complainant came to St Stephen’s, apparently to collect her cheque. She did not, as advised by someone at a distance. She raised all sorts of additional demands which cannot be met. I shall not be surprised if she, as advised by her handlers, has done another ‘sting’, a doctored version of which could be out any time. The person is proving to be quite an expert…”
