Nearly a month after a meeting between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and BJP veteran L K Advani was cancelled at the last minute, the two political leaders met on Monday at Advani’s residence. While both leaders maintained that the meeting was just “a courtesy call”, sources in the AAP said issues relating to challenges faced in Delhi and the political landscape of the nation were discussed.
“The meeting was a courtesy call. Both leaders had wanted to meet after the last appointment was cancelled,” Arunoday Kumar, Delhi government media advisor, said.
Meanwhile, sources in the party maintained that Kejriwal discussed roadblocks faced by his government because the BJP-led Central government was not being supportive. The meeting lasted for around 45 minutes, sources said.

The BJP also maintained that the meeting was “just a courtesy call” between the two leaders.
Last month, a meeting between the two leaders was cancelled at the last minute with many seeing the BJP’s hand in its cancellation. Even as the BJP had distanced itself from the incident, maintaining that Advani was a “senior leader” and was free to meet anyone, BJP sources had said the party was not happy with the meeting.
While the Centre and the Delhi government have been at loggerheads over a range of issues since the AAP came to power in the capital, Kejriwal had targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi after Advani — in an interview last month — had said, “forces that can crush democracy are stronger at this point of time”.
Prior to seeking an appointment with Advani last month, Kejriwal had tweeted, “Advaniji is correct in saying that another Emergency can’t be ruled out. Is Delhi their first experiment?”
