NOIDA: The death of a one-and-half year old boy on Monday after being hit by a motorcycle, led to massive protests by his family and neighbours, who blocked roads near the Sector 20 police station and disrupted traffic for nearly two hours.
Police said the boy's father, Mohd. Alam, who lives in Nithari village, said in his complaint that Umar was hit by a motorcycle being driven by his neighbour Mohd.
Akhroz on Sunday evening.
The boy had received head injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. He was later referred to LNJP Hospital in Delhi. The doctors at the hospital discharged him after preliminary treatment, and his family took him home.
However, the boy's health deteriorated on Monday morning and his family took him to Kailash Hospital.
The boy, however, died on the way. Enraged members of his family put his body on the road at Sector 31-25 crossing and protested against the police, demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
The protest continued for nearly two hours and was only contained after police detained Akhroz for questioning. "The situation is now under control. We have lodged an FIR into the matter and further investigation is on," a senior police officer said.
